Acrylic Blocks For Mothers Day

Aqua evokes the purity of crystalline waters, and the exhilaration and relaxation of the sea. I have been very blessed to travel the world with my husband's work. I am my most happy when relaxing by the seas whether in the Caribbean or Sardinia or Greece . . .they just soothe my soul. Years ago my husband and I, with a couple of his brothers, experienced the aqua/blue warm waters in Samoa while visiting there to transfer his sister's gravesite from one side of the island to the other. She had been run over by a car when she was 18 months while Scott's father was there teaching English. Scott was 5 years old at the time. A very painful and emotional experience for all of them, to say the least. Those waters soothed our spirits on that trip.

Aqua aura quartz is used by crystal healers and others to calm the emotions and the emotional body. It is a powerful stress reliever. It is also a strong energy for reducing or eliminating anger and symbolizes a period of transition.

Aqua stands for inner peace and serenity. It's a sign that we are strengthening our relationship with God and achieving spiritual awareness. Maybe that's why I love it so much--I feel very inspired, grounded and connected to my Source when I physically and mentally visualize or paint aqua. It also inspires truth, trust and letting go. I've had to do a lot of letting go in my life. Aqua really helps me do that.

When I was a little girl, I remember playing dress up with a pair of "silk slipperZ" in soft pastel colors. I felt like a princess in them. So soft, so feminine, so beautiful.

After weeks of creating the chakraZª WHITE series in my head, I entered my studio one evening to paint them. Each stroke on a 27"x21" piece of deep bronze metal.  Signifying coming out of the dark. 8 strokes of color--7 from the primary chakra colors--red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet--and pink. The chakra of love. I had been doing a lot of healing work with the chakra colors, releasing memories of childhood abuse, and felt inspired to paint a white stroke through each representing a clearing of any negative energy in that specific chakra. Painting these intense colors dramatically shifted me physiologically in a very positive direction!

"mantraZ" is a word or phrase repeated over and over during meditation. They are generally sacred in nature--a name or sound that both uplifts you and helps you keep your focus. They are designed to change you. How better to paint it then with blue--associated with the throat chakra.  Like music to my ears.

After dealing with years of memories from childhood abuse, and a family member who experienced drug addiction, I was fortunate to see "light at the end of the tunnel."  I actually painted this piece during the COVID-19 pandemic manifesting "light at the end of the tunnel" for the world.  It can mean so many different things to so many different people.  Hopefully we all experience "light at the end of the tunnel"--whether through another person, God or angels.  An energy beyond ourselves.  Black on black lends itself to reflection of light and is associated with water elements evoking power, mastery and calm. And a grounding effect when used sparingly. Positive traits of black include protection and comfort, strong, contained.  I believe that the abuse and addiction we have experienced is called Life 101.  Learning the darkest of dark to know the lightest of light.  The contrast. I am grateful for black.

It was a very cold winter and I was suffering a bit from seasonal depression. So I went into my studio and created 3 paintings on anodized aluminum. One was "Alive!" Red is the color of vitality and physical health--the outgoing positive "yes to life" attitude. I needed a jumpstart. I only used two red paint colors for the original of this print--they blended beautifully. I loved how the thick paint settled as a circle in the middle.  I used a high gloss paint, and it dried glossy.  I have invented tools to paint strokes anywhere from 3' to 30'--so I can paint in one motion. Almost looks like I used a spinning tool, but it was just my hands, my tool, and my energy!

Soft pink calms my emotional energies. This piece is part of a new line I recently created--coming from my softer side. (I do have one!) I was just emerging from some very harsh life experiences when "delicate" appeared. I was desperately in need of soft, soothing, tender energy.

My eye was drawn to a beautiful chrysoprase necklace at a street market kiosk in Marseille, France. The designer had created the most incredible jewelry out of healing stones. Chrysoprase is a delightful stone of the green ray. It has metaphysical properties for healing as well as being a stone to attract new love, abundance and prosperity. It promotes joy and happiness and through the vibration of Divine Truth, while helping to heal the heart of the energy of depression and anxiety, So true!

Lime green, associated with the 4th or heart chakra, inspires youthfulness, naivety, and playfulness. It creates a feeling of anticipation and helps to clear the mind of negativity. Lime is my favorite green color--and the white streak opens the way for the creation of anything the mind can conceive. "Youthful"-ness certainly helps!

I absolutely LOVE the vibrant colors against the black.  So alive.  So powerful.  I painted this original for an art show I had at the Patrick Moore Gallery in 2007. Feel the "vibeZ". The powerful balancing act of the colors associated to the primary chakras--7 energy centers in the human body that receive, assimilate and transform energy--red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Each chakra has key issues, and once they are balanced, the body's energy system feels more harmonious. Energetically, "platinum" aligns and enhances the entire chakra system, linking one to the etheric chakras. It is also a symbol of true love, purity, rarity and strength. The reflection of this image is particularly beautiful in the acrylic block.

Of all the yellow shades, lemon yellow is my favorite! I utilize it's pure, clear tones when I want clarity and the ability to step into my own power. Letting my "light" shine, so to speak. The color yellow is associated with the solar plexus or third chakra. This was one of my first paintings.

When I glide purple paints across my metal and Plexi surfaces, a calm comes over me. I feel a quiet reverence. I am literally in a different zone. Purple, the crown chakra, for me, is a freedom of/in consciousness. It is the "void". The space within myself that I can go to where there is no judgment, no fear, no anxiety, just sheer and utter nothingness. It is "inspiration."

Frank Sinatra said that orange is the happiest color. I couldn't agree more! It's alive, happy, creative, friendly, and exciting! I love orange! It really livens up my paintings. Even just a drop of it.

grace... unmerited divine assistance. The God I have come to know. The metallic paints on metallic paper just give it a feeling of grace to me. And the one-inch acrylic block gives it the depth it deserves.

When I paint gold, I paint God. Gold, at its highest level, inspires knowledge, spirituality and a deep understanding of the self and the soul. Since childhood, I was told that God dwells within. We as women are beautiful, powerful and amazing as God. Flowing Goddesses.

My oldest son actually painted the last stroke on my original euphoria. We were in a very happy, playful mood, and euphoria just appeared! Love the light airy movement in it.

To me, "deep Love" is at the core of our beings. It IS our being. It is infinite. Coming full circle. We just have to dig deep to find it at times, but it's there waiting for us to reunite. As Marianne Williamson says "A Return to Love".

The solar plexus or third chakra, located at our stomach, rules our personal power and discipline. Associated with the color yellow, it instills "clarity" and optimism, enhancing our decisiveness and problem solving and providing a foundation for intellectual growth. Every morning I bask in the solar plexus chakra mist by Sound Essence. I love how it makes me feel.
