CHOOSING THE RIGHT ART FOR YOU

Do you ever struggle with finding the perfect art piece for your space?

What’s the right size?

How about the right color?

What “sings” to you?

Which piece stirs your soul?

What room should have what art piece?

1. YOU GOTTA LOVE IT!

Art has to “sing” to you. You want it to stir your soul when you walk past it. You know, that goose bump feel. . When you enter your space, you want to be excited about the energy that the art exudes. You can pick art from all genres and they can blend beautifully in your home. Your art needs to speak to YOU.

2. COLOR IS KEY

We all have a favorite color or colors. “Color creates a sensory  experience that impacts us physiologically.” Designer Frank H. Mahnke says. So true! It can shift and transform the energy of your space. And you!

3. DON’T BE AFRAID TO MOVE YOUR ART AROUND

Sometimes I need a certain color in a spot where I will see it every morning when I walk by it. By simply moving art around in your home, can shift your energy. And it makes you feel like you’ve just remodeled your space. With one simple move.

4. SCALE

Scale can vary. Be creative. Don’t be afraid. A general rule is for art to fill 1/2 to 3/4 of the space. And to keep the center of the art piece eye level. But you can go bold and bigger. It’s fun to make a statement. Then again, you can go small on a big wall to make a statement. Mark off sizes on your wall with painters tape. It’s extremely helpful in seeing how big or small you want to go. Trust yourself. And most of all, have fun. If it feels right to you, go with it.  Afterall, this is YOUR space. Enjoy your uniqueness.

5. LIGHTING

Lighting brings your art to life. Makes all the difference in the world. From the Merlin Light, merlinlight.com, to battery operated LED spot lights—BIGLIGHT Wireless Spotlight, and everything in between, there’s a light for everyone.

I know you can’t light every piece of art in your home, but where you can, do it! You will love how your home feels like a gallery at night. The ambiance is like no other.

6. LEAVE SOME WALLS EMPTY

Negative space (I like to call it POSITIVE space) allows your home to breath. Leave some walls empty, so the ones that have art on them will really pop. It gives more of a Zen feel as well.
