INDIGO, the Brow or Third Eye Chakra

Indigo is my color. My deZign “manifeZtation” is such a part of me that when I removed it from my living room for an art show, I couldnʼt figure out why I was feeling so homesick for something and didnʼt know what. Then I realized, “manifeZtation” was missing--I felt like “I” was missing. “Indigo represents inner belief on a very high spiritual level, as well as the ability to transfer knowledge from the unconscious mind.” www.biopulsar.com

The sixth, brow or third eye chakra, is associated with the color indigo and the pituitary. “The qualities and functions are inner vision, intuition, insight, clairvoyance, imagination, extra-sensory perception, idealism, concentration, peace of mind, projection of will, manifestation.” (Elizabeth Blackburn, The Chakra Tune-Up Chart).
"Through this chakra you may withdraw into yourself. Many people withdraw to obtain peace and quiet, and freedom to stretch boundaries--for example, in meditation. When you use this color energy correctly you may be able to use your inner space as a retreat. This will help you see things from a better and more experienced angle. All intuitive energies may be found here as well. In the indigo energy lies the understanding of the life process and the need to serve mankind. It gives energy to seekers of beauty, justice and love. Indigo people are the great truth seekers, the people who teach through their own example. When we obtain contact with the indigo ray and its vibrations, we will better understand the meaning of our lives, and we will learn to accept what we cannot change. Because, it is through accepting and letting locked situations go that things get better." (Colour Energy, Inger Naess)

Put indigo in your life when there is:
  • a need to focus on personal issues, beliefs, ideas
  • a need to develop sensitivity to the inner senses
  • a need to cool and quieten normal mental processes
  • a need to relieve physical, mental and emotional pain
  • a need for space and a desire for a period of solitude (Crystal, Color & Chakra Healing, Lilly)

colorZ and the chakraZ

I first began painting the Chakra colors while mixing my album “i am free” www.pamnielsen.com, songs I had written as a celebration of God’s healing power in my life. I created an art studio in my basement and experimented with acrylics on various mediums. Having been introduced to the Chakras--seven primary energy centers in the human body that receive, assimilate, and distribute energy--during my healing process, I felt inspired to paint my emotions through colors of the Chakras--red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. I would enter my studio at times with very heavy emotional energy, and when I had painted a few pieces, that energy shifted dramatically. Painting these colors literally shifted me from darkness to light!

“An understanding of how the body uses the language of colour helps an individual to discover their personal colour needs. Selecting from a range of coloured, everyday items can provide unique guidance to enhance wellbeing, and provide guidance and clarity in life. Each colour has a set of clearly defined influences and meanings, which can be invaluable in understanding the world around us and our behaviour patterns. These qualities can also be used to create particular impressions on others. A desired image or a subtle message can be sent out with colour much more effectively than with words.” (Crystal, Color and Chakra Healing, Sue and Simon Lilly)

I have become very sensitive to color and how it makes me feel. Whether I create a commissioned piece or paint for myself, the vibrational energy of color is my main focus. I don’t claim to be an expert on the meaning of coIor or the Chakras, for me it’s more of a “feel” thing, so that is why I have quoted several knowledgeable sources on these subjects throughout this section.

But not everyone is into the Chakras or the spiritual elements that inspire my work. One of my clients saw my piece “gratitude” and loved it. He races motor bikes and it reminded him of speed. He said, “I’m not into chakras or any of that stuff, I just have to have it!”

Enjoy! Pam
